hi,
ok so im a highschool junior and im looking into art colleges and ive always been drawn to an animation school. ringling is my dream school but people keep saying its super super expensive and its a SUPER heavy work load so theres been two questions nagging me:
1. what type of homework does a college like ringling give that makes its so difficult and incredibly time consuming/ stressful
2. i looked up other art colleges like parsons and pratt and their COA yearly is higher then 49,000. So is it b/c this school is private and there arnt alot of grants and scholarships that would make the price lower? im confused
THANKS
Okay, here's an idea of what you can expect:
Many college animation programmes have subject classes held once per week, for a given number of weeks. You might have only 2 classes per day, covering a 3 hour block, but you'll have 10 subjects per week.
They'll all likely have some homework, usually with a 1 week deadline--due on the next class. That might be the exact case at the school you attend, but its bound to be similar.
Since I taught storyboard years ago, here's an example:
You are assigned to draw a storyboard based on a 1 page script. Minimum storyboard page count is 20 , 2-panel pages. But the assignment calls for some embellishment. That means you'd have to hand in AT LEAST 20 'board pages, or 40 drawings ( 2 panels each page x 20)--and the preference would be to see more. And not just drawing images, but labelling the 'board, abiding/maintaining cinematic rules, keeping things on model and making it entertaining. Make no mistake, that can be a lot of work.
So......if you are accustomed to drawing just one or two drawings a day ( as most young artists are), you are now--with just this assignment--being asked to draw at least 40 in a week, or almost 6 drawings a day.
That is in addition to the 9 other classes and their homework assignments for the week as well. You could easily be asked to do as many as 20, 30, 40 individual drawings PER DAY to complete all your assignments from all classes.
AND, you have to do it in the remaining hours of the day, because classes take up the bulk of the day, remember.
So you have your evening hours and then weekend to complete the bulk of that work. And some schools book life-drawing or supplementary studies in the evenings and weekends, as well.
If you are used to doing just a few drawings a day, and not even every day, its quite a workload to be taken on. You have to do it EVERY day, without fail or you can fall behind. Even if you are sick, or don't "feel like it".
Its just like working on the job-you HAVE TO produce, otherwise you'll not meet the deadlines.

I think the choose school is a very annoying things.at the same time ,do the animation is very hard.it need you to do more practice . But finish a painting of a sense of accomplishment is everything can't replace .so it is a very meaningful work.:D
