41 short films from 20 countries have been selected for competition, including a number of works by new talent.
SEGOVIA, SPAIN – The 11th edition of the 3D Wire Fest will feature a total of 41 short films, with 32 international and 9 national entries. Participants, representing 20 countries, will compete for awards granted by both the jury and the audience. The selections combine young talent with accomplished, award winning names already well known in the international animation community.
The national selection includes six Spanish productions and three in co-production with France and the Netherlands respectively. The directors include Daniel Martínez Lara, winner of the 3D Wire Fest in 2015 and the Goya Award (Alike); this year he presents Hero, a co-production between Spain and the Netherlands. Lemons by Daniela Godel (co-production with Spain-France), was a selection in Annecy 2019. Blind Eye is a collaborative work of seven student directors from the French school Gobelins. Previous participants David Fidalgo returns with Homomaquia, and Carlos Baena with his multi-award-winning short film La noria.
Also, in competition:
- Muedra, by Cesar Díaz Meléndez (credits include Frankenweenie by Tim Burton; Anomalisa by Charlie Kaufman; Isle of Dogs by Wes Anderson).
- Izal’s music video, The Amazing Story of the Man That Could Fly and Didn’t Know How, from the director Manuel Rubio.
- Idle by Pablo Muñoz
- I'm not Scared of the Crocodile by Marc Riba and Anna Solanas.
The international competition consists of 32 productions that offer a snapshot of current worldwide animation. Young talent will be featured alongside names such as Andrew Chesworth and Bobby Pontillas - directors whose credits include Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph and with One Small Step.
The official section features work that has already been recognized by the Cannes, Locarno and Sundance festivals including And Then the Bear by Agnès Patron, I’m Going Out for Cigarettes by Osman Cerfon and Untravel by Nikola Majdak Jr. and Ana Nedeljkovic. Rounding out the collection are works that have received both audience and industry recognition and have been chosen by the selection committee.
The jury for the competitive section of the festival as previously announced include:
- Nuria G. Blanco - Spanish director, screenwriter and producer (member of the Hollywood Academy)
- Silvina Cornillón – Coordinator of Ventana Sur Animation!
- Vincent Tavier - The Belgian Oscar Award nominee and producer.
The 3D Wire list of winners will be screened at La Cárcel Espacio de Creación over four sessions between 9/30 – 10/30
On September 24 at 9pm there will be a free screening of humorous short films at the Bar Santana.
Special Session for Children:
Once again there will be a special screening dedicated to children. One of the Peque 3D Wire’s main market objectives is audiovisual literacy and fostering new viewers in younger audiences. This year there will be a special screening of the Danish feature film, The Incredible Story of The Giant Pear, directed by Philip Einstein Lipski, Jørgen Lerdam and Amalie Næsby Fick. The screening will be Friday, September 27 at 6:00 p.m. at La Cárcel Espacio de Creación. The whole family is invited!
