17 Again Wins Weekend Box Office

Warner Bros.' Zac Efron vehicle 17 AGAIN won the weekend box office in its debut with $23.7M.

Political thriller STATE OF PLAY (Universal, vfx from Rhythm & Hues) benefitted from positive reviews to land in the number two spot in its opener with $14.07M.

Last week's winner, HANNAH MONTANA THE MOVIE (Disney, vfx by CIS Hollywood) dropped 58 percent as the target audience moved to 17 AGAIN. It earned $13.4M for third place and has a two-week total of $56.9M.

DreamWorks Animation/Paramount's MONSTERS VS. ALIENS dropped one, grabbing the fourth place spot with a take of $13.2M and a total cume of $163.1 million.

Universal's FAST & FURIOUS dropped to fifth place and earned $11.8M for Universal with a three-week cume of $136.2M (vfx by Double Negative and Rhythm & Hues).

Lionsgate's sequel CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE opened low in sixth place with $6.96M. VFX was by Duran Duboi and LOOK! Effects.

Seth Rogen comedy OBSERVE AND REPORT (Warner Bros.) dropped to seventh place with $4.17M and a two-week take of $18.8M.

Eighth place went to KNOWING from Summit Ent. (vfx from Animal Logic, BUF and Postmodern) with $3.57M and $73.8M in five weeks in release.

Paramount/DreamWorks' I LOVE YOU, MAN pulled in $3.3M for ninth place and has a five-week gross of $64.6M.

THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT (Lionsgate) rounded out the top ten with $3.1M and a four-week cume of $51.9M.

In animated features, CORALINE (Focus, animation from LAIKA) made $157,066 and in 11 weeks has made $74.8M. FLY ME TO THE MOON (Summit Ent) made $24,079 and a 36-week total of $13.5M. Sony Pictures Classics' WALTZ WITH BASHIR earned $3,344 and in 17 weeks has earned $2.27M
