Award-Winning Animator Tom Brown Joins Calon

Calon, the Cardiff-based animation company, has brought in award-winning animation graduate Tom Brown to work on its latest project a campaign film for the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Brown and Calon have been working with the EHRC-funded Croeso campaign on the 40-second film YOUR CHOICE, which tackles bullying, bigotry and prejudice in the schoolyard.

They have taken the winning entry in a Wales-wide animation competition for schoolchildren and students and turned it into a hard-hitting short film, which will premiere at Cardiff’s Odeon Cinema on July 15.

Using Photoshop illustrations manipulated with After Effects to create the school bully and his victims, Brown and the animators at Calon have created a series of highly-detailed distinctive characters.

Tom, who recently completed a B.A. Animation degree at the Film School of Wales in the University of Wales, Newport, worked with fellow graduate Daniel Gray on his three-minute graduation film T.O.M, which has won 28 awards including Royal Television Society Awards, two British Animation Awards and an honorable mention for short filmmaking at the Sundance Film Festival 2007.
