Press release from NaturalPoint:

CORVALLIS, OR — NaturalPoint, makers of OptiTrack motion capture and tracking technology, announced the addition of industry veteran Brian Nilles to the Executive team as Chief Strategy Officer.

In this role Brian will provide technical, commercial, and industry knowledge to accelerate OptiTrack’s pursuits in motion capture and tracking.

Brian has held CEO posts with 3D-focused businesses in entertainment, engineering and human studies including Vicon, Accel3D, the start-up accelerator he founded, and Evolver®, acquired by Autodesk® in 2011.

“This is a great step in OptiTrack’s growth story. The NaturalPoint team accomplished its goal of delivering precision optical tracking tools to professionals and researchers at a fraction of the cost of other technologies – and did it in just a few short years,” said Jim Richardson, CEO and co-Founder. “Very quietly our customers created the largest motion capture community in the world. Brian’s relevant and complimentary technical and commercial experience will help us better understand our customers’ needs and ensure that we continue to surprise the market with high value products.”

Brian commented: “Jim and the NaturalPoint team have successfully blended great product design, strong engineering, bold in-house manufacturing and a complete dismissal of former protocols – they then stunned the world with high value systems. Potential customers are drawn by OptiTrack’s very low prices, but then delighted to find exceptional precision, ease of use and system flexibility for their applications. We’re going to make sure that trend continues as we pursue our growth strategy.”

OptiTrack recently expanded its product line with the introduction of the Flex 13. With 1.3 Megapixels of resolution at 120 frames per second, it is the world’s first megapixel motion capture camera for under $1000. The Flex 13 compliments OptiTrack’s existing family of products, which includes the Insight VCS – a fully integrated virtual camera system – as well as a complete catalog of 3D tracking tools uniquely suited for character animation; high speed measurement and analysis of humans, animals and robots; and precision tracking for medical and industrial applications.
