Steven Cohen, vp of business & legal affairs, Buena Vista Television, died in his sleep on Jan. 31, 2005, at the age of 33. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 7 at 2:00 pm at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Los Angeles. The cause of death has not been released.
"Steven was a star at Buena Vista Television and a rising star within the Walt Disney Co.," said Janice Marinelli, president of BVT. "An outstanding human being, Steven had a thirst and passion for learning and always kept one step ahead. We relied on him for his rich knowledge and good judgment. His death is a tremendous loss to us, both personally and professionally."
Cohen joined Buena Vista Television in January 2000 as director of business affairs. He was promoted to vp of business & legal affairs, distribution in March 2003, responsible for overseeing all business affairs and legal matters related to BVT's numerous distribution platforms. These include Pay TV, pay-per-view, network, syndication, basic cable television and the emerging opportunities in new fields such as VOD and wireless technology. He took the lead position in the negotiation of complex distribution agreements with BVT's various business partners.
A BVT statement states, Cohen was recognized by his colleagues as a gifted lawyer, skilled negotiator and keen business strategist. He excelled in his understanding of distribution, new markets and new technologies, and had a passion for law and deal making.
Cohen was married for 10 months to Brielle Cohen and their first child is due in July of this year. He is survived by his wife, Brielle; his parents, Penny and Howard Cohen of Denver, Colorado; and his sister Eden Cohen, also of Denver, Colorado.
