Cinema runs for 20th Century Studios’ ‘Free Guy’ and ‘Death on the Nile’ have been postponed until next year, leaving Warner Bros’ ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ as the last big studio film still scheduled to hit theatres in 2020.
Apparently, we’ve been naughty this year, because Santa Disney is taking away our toys. Not a movie will be stirring in theatres during the 2020 holiday season, not even from the Mouse House. Unfortunately, the highly anticipated films Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds, and Death on the Nile, starring Gal Godot and Kenneth Branagh as the wily Hercule Poirot, will no longer be premiering this year. With both Disney 20th Century Studios titles out of the running, Wonder Woman 1984, from Warner Bros., remains the only major big studio tentpole film left for 2020. COVID-19 decision, or clever ruse to get more butts in Princess Diana’s seats?
While Disney’s Soul is being released straight-to-Disney+ on December 25, rather than getting pushed again into 2021, it seems like Free and Death will get to benefit from a traditional cinematic run. If you’re still looking for a Holiday family activity, be sure to check out Blumhouse’s Freaky, or DreamWorks’ Croods: The New Age. Better luck next year!
