The five-part series, which follows an international crisis triggered when an ancient species rises from the ocean, will be led by Russel Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
The War Between the Land and Sea, a five-part series spinoff of beloved sci-fi series Doctor Who, was revealed during the “Into the Whoniverse” panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
Creator Russell T Davies (Doctor Who) co-wrote the spinoff with Pete McTighe (A Discovery of Witches, The Pact, Doctor Who). Dylan Holmes-Williams directs.

“I’m so lucky to work with such a magnificent cast,” Davies said in a statement. “And this is a huge, muscular, thrilling drama which will shake The Whoniverse to its foundations. When the Doctor’s not in town, the whole of humanity is in trouble.”
The series follows an international crisis triggered by an ancient species rising from the ocean, endangering the entire population. The limited series marks the return of the Sea Devils, a franchise villain which first appeared in 1972.
Leads Russell Tovey (Feud, American Horror Story: NYC) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Surface, Loki) are joined by franchise familiar faces Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Alexander Devrient as Colonel Ibrahim.
Bad Wolf produces with BBC Studios for Disney Branded Television and BBC. Filming begins next month. Davies executive produces alongside Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter. No word yet on who will handle the otherworldly VFX.
The War Between the Land and Sea will air on Disney+ as well as and BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the U.K.
