Animated comedy directed by Tom McGrath bosses its way to $253.1 million from 72 international territories and $149.2 million domestically.
GLENDALE, CA -- With Monday’s grosses DreamWorks Animation’s 34th feature release, The Boss Baby, crossed $400 million at the worldwide box office.
The film, which was released by Twentieth Century Fox, bowed in selected international markets one week prior to its U.S. release, beginning with Russia, Australia, Peru, Ukraine, and Chile on March 23. In its expansion, The Boss Baby has since grossed $253.1 million internationally from 72 territories, in advance of South Korea’s opening this week on May 3rd.
On the domestic front, the film significantly out-performed expectations with a #1 opening weekend of $50.2 million in the U.S. on March 31st. The comedy has since bossed its way to $149.2 million domestically, having occupied the #1 spot the first two weekends of release, with extremely strong holds in subsequent weeks despite a crowded family marketplace. The Boss Baby’s total to date is a combined $402.3 million.

In Mexico, Chile and Hong Kong it has already become the most successful DreamWorks Animation title of all time.”
The hilarious and heartwarming comedy, which explores what happens to an unsuspecting family when a new baby takes over, is directed by Tom McGrath, produced by Ramsey Naito, and stars Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, Miles Bakshi and Tobey Maguire. It is written by Mike McCullers and based on the award-winning picture book by Marla Frazee.
The next film release from DreamWorks feature animation division will be the raucous comedy Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, which is directed by David Soren, produced by Mireille Soria and Mark Swift, and stars Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Nick Kroll and Thomas Middleditch and will be released on June 2nd. Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie will be the last film released by Twentieth Century Fox under a distribution deal that expires at the end of 2017.
