Emergent Game Technologies is giving more power and options to game developers with the pipeline integration between its award-winning Gamebryo video game development platform and SOFTIMAGE|XSI 3-D animation software.
This integration is part of Emergent's broader strategy to offer a wide range of game production software and design tools within the Gamebryo framework. By offering deep interoperability with the industry's leading development software, Emergent allows developers to always choose the 3-D digital content creation tools, like SOFTIMAGE|XSI, that best meet their needs.
One pressing game development need is to create photo realistic, HD animations set against a backdrop of tight budgets and ever-shrinking bring-to-market cycles that has become the norm for next generation console development. To help meet this necessity, Emergent chose to add support of SOFTIMAGE|XSI software for its ability to model, animate and render massively detailed models with millions of polygons and fluidly integrate into the Gamebryo game engine.
"We are constantly listening to our customers' requirements and are dedicated to addressing the global needs of our clients. Integrating with SOFTIMAGE is key to our global strategy," said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO, Emergent. "This partnership is another example of how our standardized flexible framework is designed to mold to the needs of the industry just like our leading partner program. These initiatives allow our product to be at the heart of the development process and empower developers with an abundance of choices for their pipeline."
Emergent and SOFTIMAGE jointly customized a seamless workflow between Gamebryo and SOFTIMAGE|XSI software. Content created by the animators on a game project using XSI is now automatically pushed through a single pipeline into the Gamebryo cross-platform engine for use by the rest of the development team. This is the first release of the integration and the companies will continue to update and optimize.
"Our partnership with Emergent will offer game developers an efficient game creation solution between SOFTIMAGE|XSI software and the Gamebryo game engine," said Marc Stevens, general manager of Softimage and VP, Avid Technology. "Softimage offers the most powerful and versatile 3D content creation platform for games on the market today, and by working closely with Emergent, we will help accelerate the game development cycles between content creation to final in-context preview."
