HBO Max’s three-part series features Arthur Curry and Mera: they’re curvy, colorful, and positively full of eyebrow power.
Finally, some news about Warner Bros’ Aquaman franchise that doesn’t have Amber Heard written all over it! The aquatic DC superhero is getting a new animated series on HBO Max, and it’s all about smooth, curvy shapes and… eyebrows. A newly released still from Aquaman: King of Atlantis shows a colorful, highly stylized version of Arthur Curry and Mera, bringing to mind Steven Universe.

Rather than the “dark” adult animated DC tales fans have come to expect, this new art style exudes a younger, lighter tone. Instead of an ongoing series, King of Atlantis will be a three-part animated mini-series, based on the storyline of the 2018 live-action film starring Jason Momoa.
James Wan (Aquaman) is set to executive produce under his Atomic Monster banner alongside Victor Courtright (Thundercats Roar) and Mary Halpern-Graser (Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans), who will also showrun. It is unclear whether talent from the live-action film will also voice their animated counterparts. In the meantime, we do know Aquaman 2 is set to premiere in 2022.
