Hero Wins Labor Day Holiday Box Office

Miramaxs Asian import, HERO, remained atop the box office chart for the Labor Day weekend period ended Sept. 6, 2004, adding another $11.5M to its two-week total of $35.2M, with vfx supplied by Animal Logic, The Orphanage and Tweak Films.

Paramounts WITHOUT A PADDLE finished second with $9M for a three-week cume of $39.8M. Screen Gems ANACONDAS: THE HUNT FOR THE BLOOD ORCHID (with vfx by Photon) scored $8M for a third-place finish and has collected $23.8M to date. Foxs PAPARAZZI debuted in fourth with $7.8M. Buena Vistas THE PRINCESS DIARIES 2: ROYAL ENGAGEMENT dipped to fifth with $7.5M and a cume of $85.5M. MGMs romantic thriller, WICKER PARK (with vfx by Les Productions de l'Intrigue Inc.) debuted in sixth with $6.8M. DreamWorks COLLATERAL came in seventh with $6.4M for a total of $88.8M. Focus Films period drama VANITY FAIR opened in eighth with $6.2M. Lions Gates THE COOKOUT debuted in ninth with $6.2M.
