Latest versions of iStopMotion for Mac and iStopMotion for iPad now include support for animated GIF export; iStopMotion for iPad offers new preference options ideal for school and workshop settings.

From adorable animals to looping videos of the most memorable moments in television and everything in between, the animated GIF has been spreading its way through the interwebs like wildfire. And now with the latest update to Boinx Software’s iStopMotion for iPad and iStopMotion for the Mac, users now have the power to create the next animated GIF internet sensation.
In iStopMotion 3.2 for Mac, you can save any sequence of up to 200 frames as an animated GIF right to your hard drive. In iStopMotion for iPad 2.2, you can export the first 200 frames of your animation as an animated GIF and send it by email or iMessage or upload it to your DropBox.

In its 26 years of existence, the animated GIF has never seen such popularity. Technology columnist David Pogue attributes the internet’s obsession with micro videos such as GIFs to a number of theories: technical limitations of smart phones and tablets, and the fact that GIFs can play on almost any browser without a plugin; the idea that limitations foster creativity (for example, Twitter’s 140 character limits and Vine’s six-second video limit); and finally, that these short clips should not be viewed as “stripped-down movies,” but rather as “live-action photographs” that far exceed the story-telling capabilities of the still image. Whatever one’s reason for loving the animated GIF, there’s no arguing that the format is here to stay.
iStopMotion for iPad can now be configured to display only specific export options. This will allow educators to restrict the use of export options that are difficult to manage in environments where multiple people use the iPads.
iStopMotion for iPad is now available on the iPad App Store for 4.99 USD, 50% off the regular price of 9.99 USD, or as a free update for existing users. iStopMotion Remote Camera is available for free in the App Store.
iStopMotion for the Mac is now available both from the Mac App Store and the Boinx website for 39.99 USD, 20% off the regular price of 49.99 USD, or as a free update for existing version 3 customers. iStopMotion 3.2 requires OS X 10.7.4 Lion or newer.
