Latest ‘Jurassic’ hit is Universal’s seventh billion dollar movie, bringing franchise box office total to almost $4.7 billion.
Dino-mania is alive and well, as Universal’s latest Jurassic franchise hit, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, just reached $1 billion at the global box office. In the 15 days since the film’s June 22nd release, Fallen Kingdom has generated more than $300 million domestically, with another $700 million tallied internationally.
The film’s predecessor, 2015’s immensely successful Jurassic World, generated almost $1.7 billion worldwide, making it the fifth highest grossing film of all time. Fallen Kingdom, directed by J. A. Bayona from a script by Jurassic World director Colin Treverrow and co-writer Derek Connolly, brings Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) back for an ill-fated dinosaur rescue mission, racing to save panicking creatures as their Isla Nublar island home is consumed by a volcano. ILM’s David Vickery served as the film’s overall VFX supervisor, with Neal Scanlan, creature effects creative supervisor, heading the animatronics team.
