Miles Flails Through Web-Swinging 101 in New ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ Clip

Reluctant mentor Peter Parker and his bumbling protégé barely escape with their lives in latest look at Sony’s upcoming animated comic-adventure.

With hotly anticipated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse opening in theatres December 14, 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes already in hand, Sony has just released an extended clip featuring freshly minted hero-to-be Miles Morales learning, literally under the gun, how to properly web-swing.  Making a fast escape from the Alchemax science facility through a barrage of laser weapon fire, our apathetic and ill-equipped mentor from another universe, Peter Parker, guides Miles, his stumbling, flailing and bagel-flinging pupil, on a frantic chase through a snow-blanketed forest, stolen computer in tow. Somehow, Peter’s harried and ambiguous instructions hit their mark – Miles quickly learns how to time and pace his web-swings and the two seem poised to get away…until Spider-Gwen stylishly appears to save them both!

Set in an alternate universe from Sony’s other Spider-Man properties, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse follows Miles Morales, a Marvel Comics character created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli who first appeared in comic form in 2011. Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) gains superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive spider, and must learn how to fit into a world already containing multiple Spider-People, including Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and a “jaded” Peter Parker (Jake Johnson).

Last month, in an official trailer release, Sony revealed the hilarious Spider-Ham, one of six Spideys sharing screen time and crime fighting duties. Back in July, they revealed new concept art, which followed the first official trailer release in June that gave audiences their first look at the massive Green Goblin, which is reimagined in this offshoot universe as a house-sized creature with dragon-like wings.

The film is directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman from a screenplay by Phil Lord. In addition to Moore, Johnson and Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, and Lily Tomlin round out the voice cast.
