Multiple Theatrical Versions of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ Confirmed

At least two different versions of the hit animated follow-up to 2018’s ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ have been discovered in cinemas, with more potentially to follow.

We weren’t losing our minds! Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse editor Andrew Leviton has confirmed the recently released hit animated film does indeed have multiple versions in cinemas. “I was wondering when people might start noticing…” Leviton remarked in a Twitter post, after eagle eyed (and truly committed) fans started noticing discrepancies in scenes after multiple watches in theaters. Currently, only two theatrical versions have been confirmed.

Across The Spider-Verse serves as the artistically ambitious follow up to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In the film, Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy reunite and soon after, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse. Along the way, he encounters the Spider Society, a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must set out on his own to save those he loves most.

The film stars Shameik Moore; Hailee Steinfeld; Jake Johnson; Issa Rae; Daniel Kaluuya; Karan Soni; Jason Schwartzman; Brian Tyree Henry; Luna Lauren Velez; Greta Lee; Rachel Dratch; Jorma Taccone; Shea Whigham; and Oscar Isaac.

Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson co-direct the film, which is written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham. Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Lord, Miller, and Christina Steinberg are producing. Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman, Aditya Sood, Rebecca Karch, and Brian Bendis executive produce.

Catch both versions of Across the Spider-Verse in theaters now.
