Scholarships available for for CG animation course led by Aubry Mintz alongside guest artists Rex Grignon, Jason Schleifer, Scott LaFleur and Jennifer Dahlman.

Cloud-based animation platform developer Nimble Collective is partnering with the California State University Summer Arts program to offer a selective animation course and scholarships for CSU Summer Arts students.

The application deadline for the course is May 15th. The top five applications will receive a scholarship ranging in value from $100 to $2,000 for use toward the course. Nimble recommends that prospective students have at two years’ experience in Autodesk Maya computer animation and modeling software.

The course will be taught by Nimble’s leaders, industry professionals who have worked on films including How to Train Your Dragon, Megamind, Lord of the Rings and Toy Story. The course application is available on the Nimble website.

Course coordinator Professor Aubry Mintz and Nimble Collective guest artists Rex Grignon, Jason Schleifer, Scott LaFleur and Jennifer Dahlman will guide the class in the creation of a CG animated original short.

Along the way, students will learn key aspects of production, including storyboard creation, modeling, character animation and shot lighting. They will also be exposed to the collaboration and communication required in professional animation teams. The course will culminate in a public presentation of student work.

The Summer Arts course is worth three credit units and runs from July 10th to July 23rd. More information about the course is available on the Cal State site.
