Press Release from Not To Scale

The film was conceived and created by Not To Scale director Man Vs Magnet for London based electronic artists Digitonal and their alluring track 'Come and Play’ from their album ‘Be Still my Bleeping Heart’.

The premise of the film is a loose narrative, set in a time and place where man can no longer dream - except it seems for a chosen few. Scattered, the remaining Dreamers live a solitary existence hidden in isolation.  They utilize a travelling Salesman to sell their dreams to the dreamless. There is a method, a system.  An arrangement between the Dreamer and Salesman that determines who receives the dreams and at what cost. This film follows one such salesman and his path. The ethereal track from Digitonal demanded a sensitive hand, a story pulled from the visual poetry of a place that is perhaps as dreamlike as the music. The timeless backdrop of the American South, a place where the people and architecture exist along a slower continuum of time, was as important in the film as the story itself. The faces of this film are true portraits of real people: farmer, actor, teacher, father, poet.

The film came about through a conversation Not To Scale had with Digitonal’s label Just Music. Not To Scale proposed they make a short film using the track as a soundtrack to that film. Thereafter the two companies worked apart and it was only on completion of the project that Digitonal’s Andy Dobson was stunned that the films narrative had unprompted picked up on his own personal undisclosed feelings for the track; a discourse on lost dreams.

The film was shot on a Canon 7D, it was filmed from the summer of 2010 to the summer of 2011 around Charleston USA and in particular Folly Beach SG delivering a stirring result.
