NYICFF Announces 2016 Dates, Call for Entries

New York International Children’s Film Festival to take place February 26 through March 20, 2016; early deadline for short film submissions is September 9.

NEW YORK -- The 19th edition of New York Int’l Children’s Film Festival (NYICFF) will be held February 26 through March 20, 2016 at venues throughout New York City.  Today the Festival announced a call for submissions for original, compelling, and non-formulaic short and feature films for audiences aged 3-18.

The Festival supports the creation of a more dynamic film culture for children and teens, and as such often presents films that were not created with young audiences in mind, but are embraced enthusiastically by children and families nonetheless. It is this bold and thought-provoking approach to programming that has made the Festival a cultural touchstone in New York City.

An Oscar-qualifying Festival in the Best Live Action and Animated Short Film categories, the Festival’s prestigious jury includes actors Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis and Jeffrey Wright, filmmakers Christine Vachon, James Schamus and Gus Van Sant and distinguished animators Bill Plympton, John Canemaker and Henry Selick, among others.

Deadlines to submit U.S. and international films for the 2016 New York International Children’s Film Festival are as follows:

  • May 19, 2015: SUBMISSIONS OPEN for all short and feature films
  • September 9, 2015: EARLY DEADLINE for short film entries
  • October 7, 2015: FINAL DEADLINE for short film entries
  • October 7, 2015: EARLY DEADLINE for feature film entries
  • November 11, 2015: FINAL DEADLINE for feature film entries
