Former Spike TV exec previously served as director of development at Nicklelodeon and worked as a development executive at Walt Disney Animation Studios as part of the team that oversaw ‘Mulan,’ ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Hercules.’
Oriental DreamWorks has named Peilin Chou head of creative for feature animation, according to a report by Variety.
A joint venture established by DreamWorks Animation and a trio of state-backed Chinese companies in 2012, Oriental DreamWorks is the Chinese co-production partner for DWA’s Kung Fu Panda 3, which arrives in theaters in both Mandarin and English on January 29, 2016.
Bringing a broad range of experience to the Shanghai-based company, Chou previously served as vice president of original series at Spike TV, where she helped launch the network and its original animation programming. Before that, she served as director of development at Nicklelodeon and worked as a development executive at Walt Disney Animation Studios, where she served as part of the team that oversaw animated features Mulan, Toy Story and Hercules.
“Peilin’s prolific background and distinguished achievements bring an invaluable level of expertise to Oriental DreamWorks,” Oriental DreamWorks CEO James Fong reportedly said in a statement. “She will be instrumental in advancing our mission to create world-class family entertainment in China for both the local and global markets and I am elated that she will be building our entire feature animation film slate and leading our development team.”
DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg and Oriental DreamWorks chair Ruigang Li also reportedly praised the hiring of Chou, saying it would help Oriental DreamWorks as the company “continues to build upon its status as a leader and innovator within the creative community in China and beyond.”
