Warner Bros. releases a new Pacific Rim featurette onto the web, alongside an action-packed television ad.
A new Pacific Rim featurette released by Warner Bros. onto IGN explains how the film’s sky-scraping robots – known as Jaegers – are operated by a two-pilot system that connects machinery and humans together via a neurological bridge.
The video combines previously-unreleased footage from the film with interviews featuring co-writer/director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy 1 & 2, Pan’s Labyrinth) and the cast discussing the premise of “drift space” central to the sci-fi feature. Watch it, below:
Meanwhile, the first official Pacific Rim TV ad showcases the film’s massive scale and awe-inspiring destruction spectacle:
The Pacific Rim cast includes Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Rinko Kikuchi (Babel), Idris Elba (Luther), Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses), Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy), Diego Klattenhoff (Homeland), Burn Gorman (Torchwood) and Robert Kazinsky (EastEnders).
The film releases in 2D and select 3D/IMAX theaters on July 12, 2013.
