‘Party’ Helmer Vernon Set for ‘Addams Family’

MGM has tapped Conrad Vernon to direct an animated feature based on Charles Addams’ classic ‘The Addams Family’ cartoons.

Sausage Party helmer Conrad Vernon has signed on to direct an animated The Addams Family movie for MGM, Variety says.

Vernon will direct off a screenplay by Pamela Pettler with Matt Lieberman, based on the original cartoons by Charles Addams. Vernon will producer along with Gail Berman and Alex Schwartz of the production studio The Jackal Group. Executive producers are Andrew Mittman and Kevin Miserocchi, while Tabitha Shick is overseeing for MGM.

The Addams Family first appeared in single-panel cartoons in various magazines, mostly The New Yorker, between 1938 and 1988. It most famously was adapted for a 1964-1966 TV series and a pair of theatrical features in the early 1990s. It’s been adapted to animation for TV several times, including a 1973-1975 Saturday morning series, and a remake done in the early 1990s to complement the features.

Vernon is a veteran of DreamWorks Animation, earning director credits on Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens and Madagascar 3 prior to the indie success Sausage Party.
