Mixing rotoscoped animation with oil painted backgrounds, the new series from Submarine and ‘BoJack HorseMan’ producer Tornante, about the elastic nature of reality, stars Rose Salazar and Bob Odenkirk.
Undone, the new animated drama co-created by BoJack HorseMan creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg and writer Kate Purdy, has just debuted on Amazon Prime. The 8-episode series, starring Rosa Salazar (Alita: Battle Angel) and Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad), explores the elastic nature of reality through its central character, a 28-year-old woman named Alma, who almost dies in a car accident. Discovering she has a new relationship with time, she uses her abilities to journey across time and space to uncover the truth about her father’s death, while trying to prevent it. The series also stars the voices of Angelique Cabral, Constance Marie, Siddarth Dhananjay and Daveed Diggs.
The series, produced by the Michael Eisner’s Tornante Company and Dutch production company Submarine, is directed by Dutch filmmaker and animator Hisko Hulsing, known for his engaging and powerful short films Junkyard (2012) and Seventeen (2003) as well as the animated sequences in the Kurt Cobain documentary, Cobain: Montage of Heck (2015). Hulsing uniquely combines rotoscoping, produced by the Austin team at Minnow Mountain behind the animated feature, A Scanner Darkly (2006) and vivid, oil painted backgrounds created by a team of painters from across Europe.
