Is a ‘Scooby-Doo’ Live-Action Series Headed to Development at Netflix?

Zoinks! Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg will pen the script, which, if approved, is guaranteed a straight-to-series order with the streamer.

Jinkies! A Scooby-Doo live-action series could soon be in development at Netflix, if the project’s upcoming script is well received, according to The Hollywood Reporter. With a script-to-series commitment already in place with the streamer, a straight-to-series order is just a mask-pull away.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, the duo behind Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop and Hulu’s High Fidelity, will pen the script and executive produce under their Midnight Radio banner. Greg Berlanti (You, Dead Boy Detectives), Leigh London Redman, and Sarah Schechter will also executive produce. Warner Bros. Television will act as the studio.

While the classic animated series and early 2000’s live-action/CG films are beloved and ripe for a reboot, the latest franchise adaptation Velma has been less than well received, though early word on Season 2 looks good. Fans are bound to have high expectations for a new installment – and a low threshold for any further liberties taken with the traditional story.
