Coming off his Japanese live-action hit SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO, director Takashi Yamazaki has set the 3-D CG animated feature, FRIENDS: MONONOKE SHIMA NO NAKI, as his next project, reports Variety. Penned by Yamazaki and based on the fairytale THE DEMON WHO CRIED, the story follows a red demon, a blue-skinned man and a human boy who befriend each other on an island. Shingo Katori will voice the demon. Yamazaki and Katori previously worked on JUVENILE. Toho plans to release the film in Dec. 2011.
