School of Visual Arts (SVA) MFA Computer Arts is hosting two public online screenings of their most recent graduates’ thesis projects. The May 11 virtual presentation will highlight 2D animation and motion graphics projects; May 12 will feature experimental art and 3D animation projects. Both events will stream live at 8pm EDT here.
Each program showcases unique approaches to themes and modes of creative self-expression. Over thirty thesis projects incorporate a variety of media, materials, and cutting-edge technologies that address a range of topics, including:
The Name of the Plum Blossom by Xiangyu Shi
- The mixed-media short tells the story of the artist's mother.
PANIK (Torschlusspanik) by Daiqi Cui
- Coming from the German word Torschlusspanik, this interactive animation is inspired by stories of endless deadlines and goals and feelings of anxiety and panic.
The Godmother by Jiani Lu and Gangling Sun.
- 3D-animated comedy about an elderly woman exacting revenge on a purse thief.
School of Visual Arts MFA Computer Arts emphasizes creative experimentation and a multidisciplinary approach to making art with computers and emerging technologies. Dedicated to producing digital artists of the highest caliber, the department guides each student in the development of a personal artistic style in a course of study that is individually tailored to meet his or her needs.
