WATCH: First ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ Trailer Roars into Comic-Con

Warner Bros. first look at sequel to Gareth Edwards’ 2014 hit features epic kaiju rumble between the quartet of ancient foes.

Warner Bros. this past Saturday teased yet another of their highly-anticipated upcoming feature film tentpoles, unleashing an exclusive event poster and first trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters on an appreciative San Diego Comic-Con Hall H crowd. The long-awaited sequel to Godzilla, Gareth Edwards’ 2014 smash sci-fi classic reboot, King of the Monsters is scheduled to reach theatres next May 31^st.

King of the Monsters, the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse, follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species - thought to be mere myths - rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

The film, directed by Michael Dougherty, stars Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown in her feature film debut, as well as Oscar nominees Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins. Kyle Chandler, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds and Golden Globe nominee Zhang Ziyi round out the main cast.

Oscar-winner Guillaume Rocheron, MPC’s VFX supervisor on Godzilla, is serving as the film’s production VFX supervisor, with visual effects production being handled by DNEG, MPC, Method Studios, Ollin VFX and Raynault VFX.

Dougherty directed from a script he wrote with Zach Shields. The film was produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Brian Rogers, Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, with Shields, Barry H. Waldman, Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira serving as executive producers. Alexandra Mendes and Jay Ashenfelter are co-producing for Legendary.
