Writers Tinkering on Transformers Live-Action Theatrical

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the team that co-wrote THE ISLAND for Michael Bay, are tinkering on a script to put the Transformer toys on the big screen for what might be Bay's next project, according to SCI FI Wire.

"We're calling it CAMPBELL SOUP: THE MOVIE, because it's the ultimate product placement," Kurtzman told SCI FI Wire. "The big challenge is how do you do it without making it look like it's just about product placement."

Kurtzman and Orci, who also wrote for TV's ALIAS, are developing characters and personalities for the toys by Hasbro that turn into all sorts of vehicles machines and giant robots.

It seems the writers are challenged by how to have the robot toys relate to the story and the humans without it coming off as a toy pitch.

Perhaps for reference they can refer to THE TRASNFORMERS: THE MOVIE done by Sunbow, Marvel Ent. and Toei Animation in 1986 and check with the creatives from that production when they faced a similar plight in animation. Marvel also did a TRSNFORMERS animated series that premiered September 1984 in syndication. TRANSFORMERS: ENERGON currently airs on Cartoon Network.

Bay is considering whether to helm the TRANSFORMERS movie as his next project or just produce it, and possibly direct it. Bay told SCI FI Wire that he can't think about his next project until he finishes editing THE ISLAND, which comes out July 22, 2005. But Bay will be hiring more people for the TRANSFORMERS project, based on the toys that were created in the 1980s.
