Mumfie to be redeveloped for TV as a new animated series based upon the characters created for the ‘Magic Adventures of Mumfie.’
Zodiak Kids announced that it has entered a development deal with Britt Allcroft Productions LLC, the company owned by British born film and television producer, writer and director Britt Allcroft responsible for worldwide hit Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends. The deal will cover the development of Mumfie by Zodiak Kids Studios as a new animated TV series based upon the characters created for the Magic Adventures of Mumfie.
The Magic Adventures of Mumfie was an animated children’s television series of 79 episodes and a movie created by Britt Allcroft and first shown in the U.K. in the 1990s on CiTV and on Fox Kids in the U.S. and many other international channels. Lead character Mumfie is an elephant who is joined on his adventures by a variety of animals and birds including a whale, a flying pig, some pirates and his trusty sidekick Scarecrow. Mumfie was also created as a string-puppet series Here Comes Mumfie in the 1970s.
“We are thrilled to be working with Britt Allcroft to help refresh iconic property Mumfie,” said Zodiak Kids Studios CEO Michael Carrington. “It is a brand with a vast amount of heritage and appeal, and at Zodiak Kids Studios we can’t wait to start visualizing it for the next generation of preschoolers, who are sure to become fans.”
“I’m happy to be working with Michael Carrington and all the team at Zodiak Kids Studios,” Allcroft said. “It’s the right time and the right team to bring Mumfie to a whole new world of fans in the 21st century.”
