Howells to Direct Int’l Licensing for Target Ent.

Helen Howells joins Target Entertainment Ltd. as its new director of International Licensing, to manage the licensing of Targets existing properties and identify opportunities for newly acquired properties across various genres, in particular, the international pre-school market. Targets licensing portfolio features key properties including MEG AND MOG, FUNKY VALLEY, THE JELLIES and ANIMAL ANTICS.

Howells was commercial director at 4Kids Entertainment, where she worked on leading brands such as POKEMON, YU-GI-OH! and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES.

Marvel Announces Year-End Earnings, 3-for-2 Stock Split

Marvel Enterprises Inc. has released its financial results for its fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2003, in addition to a three-for-two stock split in the form of a stock dividend of one additional share of the company's common stock for every two shares held. The additional shares will be distributed on March 26, 2004 to stockholders of record on March 12, 2004.

Tiger Aspects Licenses Mr Bean To Strip On Nicktoons TV

Tiger Aspect Productions has signed a three-year deal with Nickelodeon U.K. for its hit series, animated MR BEAN, bringing the outlandish animated adventures of one of the worlds most recognizable comic figures to strip throughout the week on Nicktoons TV in February 2004.

Carlton Makes Thunderbirds Licensing Moves

In conjunction with the upcoming live-action feature, Carlton Licensing has sealed deals for new THUNDERBIRDS merchandising. The most recent deal is with FOCUS DIY, featuring collectable THUNDERBIRDS rescue vehicles and badges. The promotion will raise funds for the Meningitis Trust. The badges will be available six months before the new movie hits theaters for a minimum donation of £1. The DIY chain has a long running partnership with the charity and hopes that the collectors badges will help raise more than £100,000 for the Meningitis Trust in 2004.

NATPE News: Davey and Goliath Go to Sin City

As part of a new marketing agreement with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), DandG Licensing, LLC will be bringing the DAVEY AND GOLIATH series to NATPE in Las Vegas at booth 1128. Mark Bannon founded DandG Licensing exclusively for work on DAVEY AND GOLIATH.

Ninja Turtles Take Extreme Sports To Burger King

Burger King Corp., 4Kids Entertainment Inc. and Mirage Licensing Inc. will be bringing extreme sports themed TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES toys to kids meals. The promotion will run from Jan. 5 to Feb. 1, 2004 at participating Burger King restaurants. In addition, the companies have collaborated on a program to encourage kids to incorporate physical activity into their everyday lives, as part of a partnership with the President's Challenge, a program of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

Entertainment Rights Promotes Three

Entertainment Rights in London has made a raft of new appointments, starting with Anya Hollis, promoted to director of marketing and consumer products, responsible for the strategic licensing and marketing of the company's portfolio of brands. Julie King becomes group PR manager on Jan. 1, 2004 and Jennie Saul will be promoted to the newly created role of head of live events on this date.

Worldwide licensing agent, The Sharpe Co., has negotiated a number of licensing partners for DECODE Entertainments 3D animated pre-school show, THE SAVE-UMS!

New licensing and merchandising partners include Copyright Promotions Group in the U.K., France, Spain, Portugal, the Benelux territories and Italy; Licensing Works in Australia and Newman International in New Zealand. Plus Licens is a licensing partner for Scandinavia and Eastern Europe with the company also picking up merchandising rights for Scandinavia.

Brand Licensing is Europe's leading licensing event. The event is a place for professionals to spot new trends, find new properties and acquire licenses. More than 2,000 properties are expect to debut at the event this year. In addition, the show is co-locating with Digital Art World. New for the show this year is the Art and Design Zone where visitors will be able to meet brand owners as well as individual artists. Universal Licensing Muscle Moves to Marvel

Universal Studios licensing exec Tim Rothwell is headed over to Marvel Enterprises to be president of its worldwide consumer products group. Rothwell will be overseeing Marvels core licensing and merchandising division, the companys principal source of profit and cash flow. His immediate directives from Marvel ceo Allen Lipson are to develop Marvels international licensing business and strengthen retailer relationships, which Marvel sees as underdeveloped areas with huge growth potential for the company.

DIC Bolsters Consumer Products Division

Former Disney licensing exec Vincent Marchica is onboard as vp of creative, it was announced by Nancy Bassett, svp for DICs worldwide consumer products. Kathy DeGennero has been appointed senior designer and Heather Fuscellero will serve as director of retail.

Additionally, DIC has promoted Cindy Davis from director to vp of domestic licensing and Ryan Gagerman to exec director of international licensing.

DECODE Appoints Sharpe Licensing Agent for Franny's Feet

Leading childrens and family entertainment specialist, DECODE Entertainment in Toronto, has appointed Los Angeles-based The Sharpe Co. as worldwide licensing agent for its digital 2D animated preschool show FRANNY'S FEET. The series tells the exciting stories of a little girl whose fantastic feet take her on magical adventures when she tries on shoes in her grandfathers repair shop.

FRANNY'S FEET (13x22) has been commissioned by Channel Five in the U.K., ABC in Australia, France 5 and Teletoon in France, Discover UYK and Canada's TeleQuebec.

Saban Hits Up Gould To Head Consumer Products U.K.

Former HIT Entertainment licensing executive Stephen Gould joins Saban Consumer Products Europe (SCPE) as licensing director of its U.K. arm. Gould reports to Ian Downes, managing director for SCPE, the consumer products division of Fox Kids Europe. Gould is responsible for sales, promotions, marketing and advertising Fox Kids Europe-owned and third party properties in the U.K. and Ireland. He will also source new properties for European representation and be involved with deals with SCPE's six other European offices.

4Kids Expands; Promotes New Execs

London-based 4Kids Entertainment International has completed an expansion of its operations that encompasses the promotion of key management and the appointments of new executives. Promoted to the position of commercial director is Helen Howells, who will focus on the company's sub-agent relationships as well as oversee its marketing and creative areas. Howells assumes her new position with 4Kids Entertainment International after serving as director of international licensing. She joined the company in 2000.

DIC Signs Nancy Bassett As SVP Of Worldwide Licensing & Merchandisng

DIC Entertainment announced today that they have signed Nancy Bassett to head up all of their licensing and merchandising sales initiatives worldwide. Bassett comes to DIC from Viacom Consumer Products where she was the vice president of worldwide sales for Paramount Pictures' licensing division. During Bassett's tenure with Viacom she served as the general manager of Viacom Consumer Products Canada and as managing director of Hamilton Projects. Bassett also held executive positions at Alliance Atlantis Entertainment and Sega of Canada.
