mtvU Launches MTV Networks' First Broadband Distributed Channel

mtvU, MTV's 24-hour college network, today (Oct. 10, 2005) unveiled MTV Networks' first channel distributed entirely over broadband, "mtvU Uber" (www.mtvu.com). "mtvU Uber" is available everywhere, through both non-stop streaming and a unique on-demand capability, enabling viewers to customize their experience.

The channel offers mtvU's on-air programming available to everyone, and will also showcase a powerful lineup of original programming driven by new music, short-form series, as well as student-produced short films, music videos, animation, webisodes and more.

Incredibles Grabs Golden Globe Nomination

The Hollywood Foreign Press Assoc. announced the nominations for the 62nd Annual Golden Globe Awards on Dec. 13, 2004, at 5.30 am PST. Animation fans will be happy to know that THE INCREDIBLES landed a nomination in the Best Motion Picture -- Musical or Comedy category. Toons have won the category before TOY STORY 2 took the award in 2000.

AOL Music has premiered the new video from Grammy Award-winning artists Destinys Child for their version of the holiday classic RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER. The video transports the super group to the North Pole and animates them with the same stop-motion techniques used in Rankin & Bass RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER. Spike TV and Artemis Records has announced VIDEO GAME AWARDS HITS VOLUME 1 - BEST OF VIDEO GAME MUSIC. The new compilation CD, which is Spike TV's first ever commercial music deal, contains the music taken from today's hottest videogames. The CD, with music ranging from hip-hop to hard rock, will be released on Nov. 30, 2004, just two weeks in advance of Spike TV's VIDEO GAME AWARDS 2004 on Dec. 14 at 9:00 pm.

Ludlow Music has withdrawn its demands that JibJab Media stop using Woody Guthrie's THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND tune in the Web short, THIS LAND, because it was discovered that Ludlow does not own the copyright, reports WIRED. JibJab's lawyers discovered that anyone can record their own version of the song, because the copyright has expired.

Composer Raksin Dies at 92

David Raksin, the Oscar-nominated composer wrote the memorable theme for 1944's LAURA, and scored several classic UPA cartoons in the 1950s, died Aug. 9. 2004, at the age of 92.

ASSOCIATED PRESS reported that Raksin, who had been ailing for several years and had early stage Alzheimer's disease, died at his home in Van Nuys, California, according to his son, Alex Raksin.

Animator Rocks With Music Video for His Band

Designer/animator/drummer Steve Spatucci has animated a music video for his bands song, "Wars We Need to See," which features the Restraining Order band members performing as animated caricatures of themselves.

Spatucci created the two-minute long video, single-handedly, completely with Flash. Since its launch two weeks ago, it has generated a large amount of traffic to the Website, www.restrainingorderband.com/warsvideo, resulting in some online album sales.
