Ed Skudder and Zack Keller’s masterpiece has finally arrived on DVD! As I wrote back in May, What’s Even Better Than a Dick Figures Episode? A Dick Figures Movie! Indeed, what could be better?  Spurred to produce a feature rather than half hour special after a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign raised enough money to fund a longer form effort, the boys have launched their 73-minute action-adventure animated feature on DVD.  Billed as a classic story of friendship, love and betrayal, the film traces the history of our heroes Red and Blue, setting the stage for their epic quest to find The Great Sword of Destiny.  Nick Keller’s original electronic dance score provides an energetic backdrop to the lunacy and assorted histrionics of our protagonists, who wreak havoc around the globe in their seemingly endless search.

Here's an exclusive clip for AWN readers:

Sex, violence, humor, vomit, it’s all here!  One of the true animated “crowdsourcing” success stories, Dick Figures gives hope to homegrown creative types looking for alternative ways to bring their work to the masses.  It also reminds us that even raunchy, inappropriate humor can be done with a deft, not ham fisted touch and when done right, can be sidesplittingly funny.  There are fart jokes and there are fart jokes.  Their malodorous assault, as well as their comedic value, can be vary widely. It’s unfortunate that too many animators just don’t understand those subtle but important nuances.

Yes, you read it right.  Fart jokes and nuance in the same contextual reference.  My mom would be proud.

For even more viewing pleasure, both the Blu-ray and DVD come with a number of bonus guilty pleasures:

  • Directors’ Commentary with Ed and Zack
  • 5 Behind-the-Scenes Featurettes
  • Lord Tourettes Revealed
  • Full-Length Trailer

A fine addition to any animation fan's film collection.  A fine companion during a cold, drunken Friday night living room filmfest.  Click here to get your Blu-ray or regular digital DVD.
