I Im studying animation at university and Im half way through my second year so im starting to think about the next step...getting a job... And Im needing some advice on what employers look for in students. Love 3D animation and have 3 years experiance in Maya (learning it myself) but have resently gone back to paper and pen to improve on the basics. I did life drawing two years ago in college but have started it up again to improve my skills.
What kind of things do I need in my show reel and what could I do to improve my chances of being noticed. Any advice would be very helpful.
Thanks for your time

 Hey, I'm a student as well and I know how important it is to go back to the basics. People seem to think that they've learned all they need and that's it. Going back to the basics can help improve your art work even if you are a professional artist. I would say that most employers, even in 3D animation, look to see if you even know the basics. Your work could look great, but if you're having problem with the human body, for example, it can hurt your chances in getting a job. This may not always be true for all employers, but to improve your chances I'd say keep working on your basic skills. Hey, it can only improve your chances of landing a great job. Hope this helps a little.
Writing as someone who does this:
Amaze me. Show me your absolute best work. Feel free to enthuse about your favorite animation topics (but don't talk for more than a few minutes without letting me get in a word edgewise). Enthusiasm counts for a lot.
There are many things I look for in the promotional material, but they're all outgrowths of enthusiasm about animation and someone who wants their animation to look fantastic. Make your animation look fantastic.
Does that help?
