Hey everyone. I am an 18 year old highschool animator, focusing primarily on clay animation. I have a few animations I would like to share.
My best showpiece with story and depth would be Winter Attack, which you can view on my site www.mackproductions.net in the animation section, or at this link: http://media.putfile.com/Winter-Attack (Winter Attack won the award for 'Best Youth Short' at the Chicago International REEL Shorts Festival)
I have applied to both CalArts and SCAD. Not sure which will be better for me, but I hear there is little chance in getting into CalArts, so we'll just see who accepts me. I'd appriciate any feedback on Winter Attack, by other animations, and/or these colleges. Thanks a lot

Haha, thanks for the kind words. Yeah I feel either school will help greatly in making me a better animator and artist. The thing is though, I applied for Experimental Animation at CalArts, for I didn't have all the portfolio requirements for Character Animation. It's not that I don't want to be in Experimental Animation, but it seems like there may be less job opportunities for someone in Experimental Animation than Character.
SCAD though I would be in Animation, so it would have it all.
Still unsure about it, but definitely appreciate any opinions. I think also (slightly side comment) Laika Studios in Oregon would be a nice place to apply to after I get out of college. I'd like to concentrate on Stop-Motion, and Laika seems to be a good center for that and more.
Again, any insight at all is very appreciated, thank you.

Even though you'd be on the "experimental" track, you'd be surrounded by those on the character track, and able to learn from them as well. Not trying to discourage you from SCAD; rather trying to suggest things you may not have considered.
yes, really good work. just masterpiece :)
Hey Dan,
Thanks for sharing your work. "Winter Attack" was a very nice piece of work. Interesting camera work, very nice animation, and engaging storytelling. Good stuff! And you're only 18? (I hate him already... :D)
Either school would be a good place for you. If you're accepted by both - and you can afford it - I'd suggest you head straight for CalArts.
