A Cautionary Tail wins best short animation at the 2014 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards.
A Cautionary Tail, starring Cate Blanchett, David Wenham and Barry Otto, won best short animation at the 2014 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards on Tuesday January 28.
Director Simon Rippingale and producer Pauline Piper of Rawr Media received the award following an exciting year for the film, with festival screenings at Edinburgh, Palm Springs, Rhode Island, Hamptons, Austin, Flickerfest and Sydney Film Festival, to name a few.
Internationally, A Cautionary Tail picked up the Academy accredited Jury Award for Best Animation at The Austin Film Festival.
In Australia, the film was a finalist in the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films, and won Best Animation at the Blue Mountains Film Festival. Writer Erica Harrison received an AWGIE nomination for the film.
Penguin published A Cautionary Tail as a picture book illustrated with stills from the film.
The app, A Cautionary Tail for iPad, won the 2013 Children’s Technology Review Award.
A Cautionary Tail was made with support from Screen NSW, Screen Australia, Forming Circles, and a successful crowdsourced funding campaign on Kickstarter.
The filmmakers are in advanced development on animated series Stompy & Snorty (39 x 7 min) which is travelling to Kidscreen Summit 9-12 February 2014.
Production company, Rawr Media, is also in development with children’s animated series Kimmidoll Love based on the popular toy brand and premium puppet animated series GROW (52 x 11min) for which they are in discussions with Jim Henson Company.
