Fan-Made ‘Simpsons’ Couch Gag is Brutal & Amazing

Independent stop-motion animator Lee Hardcastle creates his own take on the classic couch gag that opens each episode of the series with a tribute to Adam Wingard’s home invasion horror film, ‘You’re Next.’

Independent stop-motion animator and hardcore Simpsons fan Lee Hardcastle has created his own take on the classic couch gag that opens each episode of the series with “You’re Next.” The Claymation animated tribute to The Simpsons mixes the gratuitous violence of Adam Wingard’s home invasion horror film with Springfield’s first family with predictably gruesome results.

Check out the highly-NSFW (due to extreme Play-Doh gore and violence) video in the player below:

Hardcastle has previously created Claymation versions of The Exorcist and a mashup of Disney’s Frozen and horror classic The Thing, as well as a stop-motion spoof of Fresh Guacamole, the Oscar-nominated short by PES. Other projects include stop-motion animation for a segment in The ABCs of Death and the “Tech Noir” music video for Gunship with opening narration from John Carpenter.

The Simpsons couch gag has showcased several filmmakers and artists in the past, including Ren & Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi, the creators of Rick and Morty, World of Tomorrow director Don Hertzfeldt, indie king Bill Plympton, Chick director Michal Socha, Triplets of Belleville director Sylvain Chomet and Guillermo Del Toro. There’s no telling if Hardcastle’s tribute will ever become Simpsons canon, but we can only hope.
