We had an incredibly successful inaugural ceremony in 2015 and this year will be even bigger and better. Animation Ireland is kindly sponsored by RTÉ and the Irish Film Board and without them the event wouldn’t be going ahead. ‘‘
A new category this year is the Best Irish Feature Film or Special. Among the other awards categories are Best Animation, Best Animated Short Film, Best Animation for Apps and Gaming, and Best Director of an Animated TV Series.
The awards, sponsored by the Irish Film Board and RTÉ, acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding creative talent within the Irish Animation, VFX and gaming industries. The Irish animation industry has been growing at an extraordinary rate in recent years thanks to extraordinary talent in the sector. Irish animated films and games have been picking up awards worldwide in recent years, including success at the Oscars with nominations for Cartoon Saloon’s Song of the Sea and The Secret of Kells.
