Polish video game developer CD Projekt Red has announced that a live-action adaptation of their popular sci-fi video game Cyberpunk 2077 is officially in the works, according to Variety.
While further details have not been revealed, the project will be developed by the media company Anonymous Content, responsible for hit shows True Detective and Mr. Robot and the Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer The Revenant. The search for a screenwriter to pen an original story within the Cyberpunk world is already underway.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a futuristic RPG shooter set in Night City that follows the mercenary ‘V’ who navigates the dystopian society where the lines between humanity and technology becomes blurred. Keanu Reeves lends his voice to the iconic character Johnny Silverhand in the original game. The expansion Phantom Liberty also features the voice talents of Idris Elba.
Anonymous Content Studios’ Head of Television Garret Kemble, Director of Development Ryan Schwartz and Chief Creative Officer David Levine will produce alongside Charlie Scully. AC Studios will develop the project in close collaboration with the Cyberpunk 2077 creative team.
Fans of the franchise can also watch the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, now streaming on Netflix.
