Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap to Produce ‘Monopoly’ Live-Action Adaptation

The team behind ‘Barbie’ and the upcoming ‘Sims’ adaptation will collaborate with Lionsgate and Hasbro Entertainment on the board game feature, although plot details remain mum.

Another day, another feature adaptation straight from our childhood. This time, Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap and partners Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara will produce a live-action film based on the iconic (and friendship ruining) boardgame Monopoly, alongside Hasbro Entertainment, according to Variety. The trio also developed the blockbuster Barbie and are hard at work on a Sims adaptation.

“Monopoly is a top property — pun fully intended,” said LuckyChap. “Like all of the best IP, this game has resonated worldwide for generations, and we are so excited to bring this game to life alongside the wonderful teams involved at Lionsgate and Hasbro.”

Lionsgate gained development rights for the property from its recent acquisition of eOne in December 2023, although the title technically remains under the Hasbro umbrella.

“I could not imagine a better production team for this beloved and iconic brand than LuckyChap,” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said. “They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care, and join Monopoly with a clear point of view. We are tremendously excited to be working with the entire LuckyChap team on what we all believe can be their next blockbuster.”

Hasbro Entertainment’s head of film Zev Foreman said, “As one of the most iconic games in the world, Monopoly provides an incredible platform for storytelling opportunities. We are thrilled to have the unique vision of LuckyChap and Lionsgate alongside us to bring this historic piece of popular culture to the big screen.”

No word yet on how exactly the team will translate the business-first, relationships-last boardgame to the big screen. Or who may handle the VFX production.
