Company continues its push into virtual film production services with investment in new state-of-the-art Montreal facility.
Montreal-based MELS has just unveiled its new state-of-the-art, programmable, robotic 10,000 square-foot virtual production stage equipped with a motorized movable ceiling. The new facility represents the latest move in the company’s ongoing investment in developing virtual film production capabilities and operating its virtual stage for more than a year.
“Our new virtual stage will let us take our know-how to the next level and apply our advanced expertise to continue developing our services for major local and foreign projects,” says Richard Cormier, Executive Producer, Virtual Production at MELS.

MELS has worked on a number of virtual production projects over the past year, including Transformers 7, Disappointment Blvd., Nissan, Loto-Québec, The Moodys, Lignes de fuite, Arlette!, Les Trois Accords, Five Roses, Survival, and Via Mare.
MELS was recently awarded an Epic MegaGrant to support ongoing development of its virtual initiatives.
MELS’ virtual stage is an integrated platform that provides a complete virtual production solution. All services – special effects, camera, lighting, postproduction, tech – are linked by fiber optics to all the sets to provide a turnkey solution that combines agility, effectiveness and creative latitude. The virtual stage can be configured to meet the needs of projects of all sizes.
In 2020, MELS launched a virtual production stage equipped with an LED-screen backdrop. The technology makes it possible to replace greenscreens and create a virtual set in real-time. The company, part of TVA Group, provides soundstage and equipment rental, visual effects, sound and picture post-production, mobile unit rental, theatrical distribution, distribution for television, Internet and smart devices, as well as a virtual production stage.
