Technicolor-owned visual effects company MPC announces plans to open a new studio in Montréal, Quebec in fall 2013.
Montreal –
Technicolor-owned visual effects company MPC will be opening a new studio in Montréal, Quebec in fall 2013.
The 25,000-square foot studio is situated in Old Montréal and will house more than 200 artists. The facility features full specification screening rooms and will be networked through MPC’s efficient integrated pipeline, allowing for collaboration and review of sequences between each of MPC’s global studios. The investment is supported by parent company Technicolor and the Government of Quebec.
The team at MPC Montréal will work on Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, with X-Men VFX Supervisor Richard Stammers. Other projects to complete in Montréal include Disney’s Into the Woods, with MPC’s VFX Supervisor Matt Johnson, and Cinderella with MPC’s Charley Henley, who is serving as the film’s VFX Supervisor.
“We are excited to open a base for MPC Film on the East Coast of North America,” said Emilie Dussault, MD MPC Montréal. “This further extends our global network and perfectly complements our activity in Vancouver. Montréal is the obvious location as it has fantastic home-grown talent, is close to productions that sit on our current slate and the province been extremely welcoming to us through their fiscal regime."
“We at Technicolor are extremely proud of our MPC VFX brand, and the opening of the Montréal location speaks to how keen we are to see it go from strength to strength,” said Tim Sarnoff, President, Technicolor Digital Productions. “The mixture of talent from Montréal and other locations that is gathering in Quebec is a real force to be reckoned with. We also thank the Quebec government for their support in both the VFX and Creative services industries.”
MPC have had an outstanding year, winning an Academy Award, BAFTA, Critic’s Choice and VES Awards for their contribution to Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, numerous nominations for their stunning work on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, and have completed VFX work for some of the highest grossing movies of the year: Man of Steel (Zack Snyder), World War Z (Marc Forster), and projects such as The Lone Ranger (Gore Verbinski) and 47 Ronin (Carl Rinsch).
MPC is now working in seven cities around the world with joint Film and Advertising locations in London and Bangalore, Film locations in Vancouver and Montréal, and Advertising studios in LA, New York, and Amsterdam. A
French-owned Technicolor also revealed plans to consolidate its established Québécois post production interests into the current building on Sainte-Catherine Ouest, which is currently being remodeled with the integration of new equipment.
