Marvel Studios’ Hall H showcase panel at Comic-Con 2024 also revealed ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ helmers Anthony and Joe Russo will return to direct ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ out May 2026, and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ out May 2027.
In the biggest reveal of the year, Marvel Studios’ Hall H showcase panel at Comic-Con 2024 revealed that Avengers franchise darling Robert Downey Jr. will return as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, originally titled Avengers: Kang Dynasty. The Russo Brothers (Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame) will also return to direct Doomday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
During the panel, Anthony and Joe Russo pointed out that Doctor Doom is one of the most complex characters in the Marvel Universe and needed a truly great actor to bring him to life. As Feige and the Russos prepared to close out the presentation, robed figures dressed in Doctor Doom masks took the stage and then parted to reveal Downey Jr.
The Russo’s company AGBO will produce both films alongside Marvel Studios. Stephen McFeely, known for his work on the Captain America trilogy and Avengers: Endgame, will handle the script.
"Being able to create stories and explore characters within the Marvel Universe fulfilled a life-long dream of ours, and we discovered a powerful connection with audiences in each film that we made,” said The Russo Brothers. “We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with Kevin, Lou and the entire Marvel team to bring this epic adventure in storytelling to new and surprising places for both the fans and ourselves.”
