Special Event: Annecy

The National Film Board of Canada boasts 4 short films in competition, including Torill Kove’s ‘Maybe Elephants’ and Michèle Lemieux’s latest pinscreen effort, ‘Le tableau,’ alongside ‘Miserable Miracle’ and ‘Corpus and the Wandering,’ as well as a tribute to Portuguese animation with a program of films by Regina Pessoa; Annecy 2024 runs June 9-15.

Funding will allow expanding the company’s ecosystem where content creators can connect, partner and shape anime IP development; company set as a Pitch Partner at upcoming Annecy MIFA event running June 9-16.

The annual 1-day event returns to Annecy June 10, featuring Portuguese visual artist Maria Melo’s artwork and the theme ‘Stronger Together: The Equitable Future of Animation.’

Four National Film Board of Canada animated shorts are headed to the festival, with the Oscar-winning animator’s latest, along with Michèle Lemieux’s pinscreen film, ‘Le tableau (The Painting)’ among the films selected for the official short film competition. 

Festivalgoers will be treated to a screening of the famed director's animated features ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ and ‘Isle of Dogs’ and get a chance to attend his exclusive masterclass; festival returns to the lakeside city June 9-15.

Out of 36 applications, three artists/directors will receive support and mentoring on visual development of their feature-length animated films while living and working in Annecy from April 5 – June 28, 2024.

To be located in the historic Haras d’Annecy, the new Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation d’Annecy will promote animation to a wide audience, boasting a screening room, artist’s residence, training facilities, and exhibition space for temporary and permanent collections.
