The Museum of Television & Radio will present the 24th annual William S. Paley Television Festival. This Festival, named for William S. Paley, founder of both the Museum and CBS, celebrates television's rich and diverse programming and the creative process behind it. During each evening, the audience views episodes or highlights of the featured work and has the opportunity to ask questions of the cast and creative team or the individual involved in its production.

PBS & Discovery Kids Lead Children's Emmy Awards Nods

Nominees for the Children's Programming Emmy Awards were announced today (Feb. 7, 2007) by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at the annual Kidscreen Summit at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in New York City. Peter Price, president of the National Television Academy, was joined by Donna MacNeil, vp/group publisher of KIDSCREEN MAGAZINE, and John Tartaglia, host of the DISNEY PLAYHOUSE series, JOHNNY AND THE SPRITES.

SCI FI Announces New Flash Gordon and Other Programming

SCI FI Channel announced at the Television Critic's Assoc. Tour that it has greenlit production on FLASH GORDON, based on the popular comic strip franchise. Production on the 22 one-hour episodes begins in Canada in early 2007. The series, produced by Reunion Pictures, is slated to debut on SCI FI this July, with a broadcast syndication window to follow.

Under an agreement with property owner King Features Syndicate, the new series is being produced by RHI's Robert Halmi Sr. and Robert Halmi Jr. (TIN MAN, LEGEND OF EARTHSEA, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS).

CBS Greenlights Ultra Comic Pilot

CBS has greenlit a pilot for a new live-action TV program based on the comicbook, ULTRA, reports VARIETY. JOAN OF ARCADIA creator Barbara Hall will exec produce the pilot. CBS Paramount Network TV is producing the show.

The comic is a spoof of celebrity magazines and follows a female superhero who must balance saving the world, advancing her career as super model, Pearl Penalosa, and developing a love life.

David Engel and David Alpert are co-exec producers on the project.

Writer/Producer Ronald D. Moore Signs Two-Year NBC Universal TV Deal

NBC Universal Television Studio has completed a new, two-year overall production deal with writer/producer Ronald D. Moore (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE) to develop various projects for the studio.

Moore's new deal allows him to continue as one of the show-running exec producers of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA for NBC Universal's SCI FI Channel. Moore's development plans are expected to skew toward SCI FI programming.

Peter Jackson to Exec Produce Halo Feature

Bungie, creator of the HALO game, has announced that Peter Jackson and his partner Fran Walsh have joined the film adaptation of the game as exec producers. In addition, WETA will be fabricating Covenant weapons, building life-sized Forerunner structures and handling live-action/CG integration for the project. Universals Mary Parent and Scott Stuber are producing.

Family Guy Showrunner Inks FOX Deal

FAMILY GUY showrunner David Goodman has signed a two-year deal with 20th Century Fox TV, according to VARIETY. The seven-figure deal will keep the former co-exec producer of FUTURAMA on as exec producer/showrunner for GUY and give him the opportunity to develop comedies for the network through 2007.

DC’s Losers Get Lucky with Feature Deal

DC Comicss THE LOSERS has been selected for a big screen adaptation from Warner Bros. Pictures, reports VARIETY. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS helmer Peter Berg and Akiva Goldsman will produce the film, with Berg to write the script and possibly directing. John Cameron and Sarah Aubrey of Berg's Film 44 will also produce along with Kerry Foster for Goldsman's Weed Road.

The film chronicles the adventures of a highly skilled CIA team as they are attacked by their own agency and left for dead. The title was recently revived under the Vertigo label after a 30-year hiatus.

SCI FI Ramps Up Series Slate with Toon & Douglas Deals

SCI FI Channel announced new additions to its series development slate for '06-'07, including a new animated series and a new live-action supernatural series exec produced by Oscar-winner Michael Douglas.

BARBARIAN CHRONICLES is a half-hour animated series from Brendon Small, creator of the offbeat series HOME MOVIES. Described as cross between LORD OF THE RINGS and CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, the ensemble comedy set in a magical realm of swords, sorcery and Middle-earth metrosexuals. Small and David Letterman's Worldwide Pants are exec producing.

Kim Possible Leads Daytime Emmy Noms For Toons

Today the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 32rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Disneys KIM Possible garnered five nominations, leading all other animated fare, including a nod for Outstanding Children's Animated Program. THE BATMAN and BLUES CLUES came in a close second with four nominations apiece. DORA THE EXPLORER and JAKERS! took home three noms with DUCK DODGERS and POSTCARDS FROM BUSTER receiving two nods.

UK Showcase 2004 will take place at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. The event comprises three days of high-profile symposia, presentations, panel discussions, demonstrations and conversations. The event will kick off with a celebrity gala dinner at the hotel Nov. 8, also attended by the British Consul General Peter Hunt CMG and leading figures from the U.K. and U.S. industries.

VFX Showcases, sponsored by Discreet and moderated by Steven Gaydos, exec editor VARIETY magazine, will take place each day.

Sci Fi Channel has its extensive slate of new series and specials for the next season. Knights of the Zodiac Dawns On Cartoon Network

Anime fans, thank your celestial stars, and Cartoon Network for debuting in the U.S. KNIGHTS OF THE ZODIAC, August 30, at 7:00 pm as part of the network's Saturday evening action programming block. The Japanese futuristic action-adventure series follows the adventures of the mystical Knights of Athena, which was produced originally in Japan in 1986 by Toei Animation, and re-purposed for the U.S. Kaleidoscope Ent. and DIC Ent.

Trading Spaces Offers Spy Kids Renovation Special

As a way of promoting the release of SPY KIDS 3D: GAME OVER on July 25, 2003, Discovery Kids on NBC will be airing a special kids edition of the TLC TV series TRADING SPACES, featuring SPY KIDS stars Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara. Hitting the airwaves Saturday, July 19 from 11:00-11:30 am (ET)/9:00 -9:30 AM (PT), BOYS VS. GIRLS has Alexa joining 13-year-old Kali as she turns her brothers room into a spy-training obstacle course, featuring monkey bars, tire steps and a climbing wall. Daryl will team with Eli to change Kalis bedroom into a retro soda shop.

Showtime Launches Adult Animated Series Free For All

Brett Merhar's cult comic strip FREE FOR ALL premieres as a new, very adult animated series on the Showtime Network, at 11:00 pm on July 11, 2003. Produced by Showtime Networks, in association with the primetime animation expert Film Roman, the series of seven episodes follows Johnny and Clay, the strip's cynical, dysfunctional bestfriends, struggling with out-of-the-ordinary daily woes with Clay's sidekick, Angus, a ferret strung out on drugs.

Celebrity Guest Stars Add Up To New Cyberchase Adventures

PBS Kids is offering new episodes of CYBERCHASE in May 2003. The new shows, produced by Thirteen/WNET New York and Corus Entertainment's Nelvana, air on Wednesdays, featuring characters who use math to save the day. Jackie, Matt, Inez and their pal Digit sum up their strengths and smarts to outwit the dastardly Hacker. On May 14, 2003, Binky the Cat (voiced by Bebe Neuwirth) calls the Cybersquad to an ancient Egyptian site to help when Hacker (voice by Christopher Lloyd) steals the "Eye of Rom." Al Rocker (THE TODAY SHOW) stars as journalist Sam Vander Rom, who reports on the kids' efforts to catch a rampaging cyber-whale in "A Whale of a Tale" on May 21. Exec producers are Sandra Sheppard, director of children's and educational programming at Thirteen, and Kristin Laskas Martin, former exec producer of the MAGIC SCHOOL BUS. Larry Jacobs is the animation director.
