The Visual Effects Society releases work project submissions guidelines for upcoming Awards consideration, including information on a new category, qualification changes and deadlines.
The Visual Effects Society (VES) has just released their latest set of rules and procedures for submission of work for the 18th Annual VES Awards, being held this coming January 29, 2020.
According to the VES announcement, “We at the VES are very gratified by the positive reception that the VES Awards continue to receive from our community. Our aim is to keep the Awards fair, meaningful, and open to as many artistic specialties as possible while at the same time being responsive to trends in our field and address concerns of our members.”
The VES introduced a new category, Category #24 - Outstanding Special (Practical) Effects in a Photoreal or Animated Project, after “careful consideration and discussion with prominent members of the Special Effects community.”
Animation will now be eligible in four additional categories. According to the VES statement, “At the urging of animation industry leaders and after considerable study by the Awards Committee, animation projects now will be eligible to compete in Category #16 – Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in a CG Project. This decision reflects industry trends where live action and animation production are blending. Additionally, in recognition of the legions of compositors working in animation, animation compositors will now be eligible to compete in all compositing categories (cats. #21 through 23).”
Submission costs have stayed the same at $460 per entry. Any project that premiered anywhere in the world in 2019 and that meets the criteria of the VES Awards may be entered. The deadline for submissions is Friday, November 30, 2019, 11:59PM PST. Viewing materials and optional supplemental written material (if any) must be uploaded between November 4 and November 30, 2019.
