Ace & Son Animates Promo Campaign for Grouplove

New York animation boutique Ace & Son Moving Picture Co. collaborates with Canvasback Music/Atlantic recording artists Grouplove to create an expansive promotional campaign.

New York animation boutique Ace & Son Moving Picture Co. recently worked with Canvasback Music/Atlantic recording artists Grouplove to create an expansive promotional campaign for the September 17 release of their album “Spreading Rumors.”

Beginning July 30, two original pieces of animation featuring teasing excerpts from each of the thirteen album tracks will be unveiled each week culminating in a full-length video.

Each snippet tells the story of an individual and an enchanted moment. These moments come together with the premiere of the full-length story on September 9.

The project is directed by Kelsey Stark of Ace & Son Moving Picture Co. based on original artwork created by Grouplove's Hannah Hooper.

Visually and conceptually, the segments can be described as 21st Century New Yorker cartoons crossed into The Twilight Zone. They mix simple and elegant line drawing with fluid animation and off kilter narratives that ring with emotional truth. Or as one YouTube commenter stated: “I love the concept, love the music, love Grouplove but I reckon this will be featured in my nightmares tonight.”

New teases will be released twice a week at www.grouplovemusic.com/toonlove.

Kelsey Stark is Director for Ace & Son Moving Picture Co. Richard O'Connor is Executive Producer/Creative Director. Animators include Leah Shore, Taisiya Zaretskaya, Casey Drogin, Christine Wu and Liesje Kraai.
