Columbia College Chicago's Photography Department and Film/Video Department will be hosting legendary filmmaker and visual effects pioneer, Douglas Trumbull. His credits include: director of SILENT RUNNING, BRAINSTORM, BACK TO THE FUTURE: THE RIDE and SECRETS OF THE LUXOR PYRAMID; and visual effects work on 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND and BLADE RUNNER. Trumbull will teach classes for Columbia's advanced Photography and Film/Video students. He will also give free public addresses. On Monday, November 27 at 1:30 pm, the topic will be "Digital Movies: Where Are We Now?" On Wednesday, November 29 at 1:30 pm, the topic will be "Deconstructing 2001 in 2001." On Thursday, November 30 at 1:30 pm, the topic will be "Electronic Cinema, Virtual Sets and the Digitization of Media." Trumbull will also host the following two ticketed public screenings sponsored by Columbia College Chicago and The Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. On Thursday, November 30 at 7 pm, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND will be screened and BRAINSTORM will be shown on Friday, December 1 at 8 pm. Tickets will be US$10 for general admission; $8 for Film Center members; and $5 for students of Columbia College & SAIC. A Two-Screenings Package is available for $18 general admission; $14 Film Center Members; and $7 students of Columbia College & SAIC.
