Joyce Sherri Takes Over as Lead Writer, Director on ‘Tiana’ at Disney+

The ‘Midnight Mass’ penner replaces previously announced writer/director Stella Meghie, who remains on the animated series as an executive producer; the show arrives on Disney+ in 2024.

Joyce Sherri (Midnight Mass) has joined the upcoming Disney+ animated series Tiana as lead writer and director, according to Variety.

She replaces Stella Meghie, the acclaimed writer/director of The PhotographThe Weekend, and Jean of the Joneses, who was originally announced as the director and writer of the Walt Disney Animation Studios serieswhich sees Tiana set off for a grand new adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia. Meghie remains onboard the project as an executive producer, along with Jennifer Lee. Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls) returns as the voice of Tiana. Nathan Curtis produces.

Speaking about the project, Lee stated, “I love that Disney+ allows us to introduce experimentation and freshness while also exploring our legacy. Combining celebration and narrative innovation. In that sense we can play more with the Disney+ series. […] Tiana is a new world for her, a new direction, and a new voice. I think it's a very good platform to start playing with things that have meant a lot to many of us.”

Originally set to release on Disney+ in 2023, Tiana is now expected to arrive in 2024, while The Princess and the Frog is currently streaming.
