Niagra-on-the-Lake, Canada, April 24 -- Animation and visual effects studio Keyframe Digital Productions recently completed VFX work for Discovery Channel's two-hour television movie DEADLIEST SEA.
Keyframe performed on-set VFX supervision and digitally created crashing waves and relentless rain, stinging ocean spray, thunderous, stormy skies lit by lightning, battered rigging and a 3D model of a King Crab trawler along with a CG recovery helicopter.
"We created 35 VFX shots for the film," said Keyframe's Clint Green, "all of which were very complex and challenging. All the different elements had to come together seamlessly and realistically to make the audience feel, on a gut level, the perils tough and brave men face at sea, both from the job and Mother Nature."
Produced by Working Edge Productions, Inc., DEADLIEST SEA is directed by T.J. Scott and produced by Karen Wookey. Executive Producers are Thom Beers, CEO and executive producer of Original Productions, and Philip Segal, president of Original Productions.
Based on the book WORKING ON THE EDGE by Spike Walker, DEADLIEST SEA tells the story of a young man who joins the crew of a King Crab trawler in Alaska seeking to make some real money. The captain of the vessel plays a hunch about where to set traps in the Bering Sea, but the boat and crew are soon victims of a powerful and relentless storm which turns the ice cold sea into a death trap in the pitch black night. As the doomed vessel sinks, the men fight a desperate battle for survival against the brutal elements.
Set to air later this spring, the movie will be featured during season five of Discovery Channel's popular, Emmy Award-winning series DEADLIEST CATCH created by Beers.
