Oldboy Remake For Spielberg, Smith

DreamWorks is working to secure the rights to remake Chan Wook-park's OLDBOY for Steven Spielberg and Will Smith to collaborate on, per VARIETY.

The remake of the Korean film from 2003 would be distributed by Universal. In it, a man (to be played by Smith) is held in a cell for 15 years without explanation. He is suddenly released with money, a cell phone and clothing and sets out to discover who imprisoned him. Spielberg has been looking to work with Smith for awhile, and is currently looking for a writer to start the development process.

Universal originally had the film set up, then moved to Mandate.
